Onpu Segawa

Onpu Segawa (瀬川おんぷ, Segawa Onpu) is one of the main characters of Ojamajo Doremi. She was initially the group's antagonistic rival beneath Majoruka. An established idol who just transferred to Misora, she began attending the same elementary school as Doremi, Hazuki and Aiko.

At the start of Sharp, Onpu officially joined the group as a quadragonist.

Bio[]

A famous Chidol -Child Idol- known for her cuteness and skill. She is a popular idol, actress and model. She is also a top-ranked Witch Apprentice.

Appearance[]

Onpu has fair skin and large amethyst square-shaped eyes lacking a pupil. Her hair is slightly lighter, about shoulder-length when loose. She wears a portion of it in a side-tail with a pastel green scrunchie. Her forelocks curve inward to frame her face, and she has thin bangs.

Originally, Onpu wore a pastel green T-shirt with a sleeveless, light purple dress. At the middle of the chest is a circular window, the fabric held by a purple button. These are paired with dark purple leggings and a pair of sunshine yellow and white sneakers.

Starting with Motto, Onpu swaps her two-piece outfit for a lavender T-shirt dress with pastel yellow ribbon tied beneath the chest to accent the skirt lining. Her shoes altered in design, while she kept her leggings the same.

Personality[]

Onpu is a popular idol who is well aware of her allure and cuteness, and she has no problem using it when necessary. She is kind and considerate towards others, wise and very hardworking. She takes her career very seriously so she expects other people to do the same- and if they don't then she will make sure to tell them. She can be blunt when it comes to correcting someone or when pointing things out, but she usually doesn't mean harm. Onpu is very well-liked by others, and she is normally composed and calm-tempered. She can become flustered or bewildered by odd, unusual behavior though. She has a tendency to shut herself away from others when something bothers her, and she tries to remain all smiles to avoid letting them realize anything is wrong. While she handles everything in stride, she is shown suffering from feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.

Back when she debuted as a rival, Onpu was very manipulative and could be cruel. She didn't think about other people, having built a wall to put distance between them, so she had no problem with pretending to be nice to them or tell them what they wanted to hear. She got along with others, but it was superficial initially. She was selfish and self-serving, and didn't worry about hurting others or causing them problems if it got her away from a problem quicker. But as she got to know Doremi and the others, she began to realize that she couldn't keep doing these things. Which led her to eventually stop manipulating others and genuinely befriend them.

Witch Apprentice[]

Onpu became an Apprentice one day while attending an idol training camp. She came across Majoruka at the beach, while she was recovering from her defeat at the hands of Doremi and the others. Onpu called her a witch and agreed to become her Apprentice because it sounded like fun. To afford her stay in the Human World, Majoruka began working as Onpu's manager.

Time passed and the girls began to hear about a "genius witch apprentice", who managed to advance through her exams in a short period of time and skipped three of them consecutively. Shortly after, Onpu transferred into their class and the girls didn't realize she was that Apprentice until Onpu revealed her identity to them. The girls worried realizing that Onpu was using Forbidden Magic but she refused to listen to them at first, until they began to wear down her defenses. But then she chose to use it one final time, after the group was caught by their family and friends dressed as Apprentice, returning from the Witch World. Onpu fell into a coma but the girls sacrificed their magic in order to save her, resulting in Onpu befriending them for real. Following this, she officially joins their group when they got another chance at becoming Apprentice.

Onpu is overall a talented Apprentice Witch who is good at casting spells, exams and flying. She also learned how to read the witch world's writing system.

Her fairy is Roro and her Crystal Ball is a purple droplet.

Background[]

As a toddler, Onpu was very curious about the world around her and loved to explore. She loves her parents very much, and she decided that she wanted to become an idol to show the people who ridiculed her mother (a former chidol) over how she grew up into adulthood. They were doubtful that Onpu would be successful, encouraging her to out-perform everyone else.

Relationships[]

Doremi[]

Doremi thinks Onpu is really cute, and Onpu enjoys teasing her. They have a close bond that formed over the first season, and Onpu tells Doremi that it was her influence that allowed her to remove the wall she built to keep others away from her. She showed her the importance of friendship, and holds her close to her heart now. If they hadn't met, then she believes that she would have become a cold and mean person as she got older.

Hazuki[]

Both girls are sensible and feminine. They get along on the grounds that they can agree/relate towards most things, and they understand each other. Onpu is patient and kind when she speaks about Hazuki or tries to encourage her.

Aiko[]

Onpu and Aiko are often seen together throughout the series. While their personalities are somewhat clashing, they are both grounded, mature and serious when necessary. They get along for most part and rarely argue or dispute. They usually express concern towards each other, and Aiko can usually tell when something bothers her.

Momoko[]

Initially Momoko insulted Onpu when she gave her blunt critique, unaware that it could be considered rude or mean. But once they reconciled, they became close friends. Onpu often helps Momoko when she feels down by offering her encouragement, while Momoko appears to think highly of Onpu and generally adores her.

Hana-chan[]

Out of the group, Onpu appeared to be a natural when taking care of Hana. But because she had to work so much, she would usually come by the shop at night to take care of her while Majorika and Lala slept. Onpu loves Hana very much, and Hana admires Onpu and tries to be helpful. Onpu will be stern with her when she has to, but she would do anything for Hana, even if it meant eating something she dislikes -to the point of making herself sick from stress- to try to help her understand the importance of eating healthy.

Pop[]

Onpu took to Pop fairly quick when they met, even offering to hang out with her. She likes teasing Doremi by complimenting Pop and how smart she is. Pop really cares about Onpu, shown best when she willingly sacrificed her magic help the girls cast Magical Stage to wake her up.

Karen[]

A shy, meek girl who Onpu befriends during the audition for a drama. Both of them wanted the role but Onpu chose to help Karen get it by using her magic to help her stop being nervous and gain confidence in herself. During Dokkan, as Hana-chan and Doremi worried about the career of their favorite show because of the lead actor, Onpu reveals to them that she got Karen the role, meaning they are still friends. Karen reappears in the light novel, having become one of her close friends, and they often hang out together.

Tōru[]

Tooru admires Onpu's skills in show business and aspires to become famous like her, even becoming a member of her fan club. However, Onpu didn't really like him because he wasn't taking the career seriously. She tolerates him but doesn't appear to feel anything particularly for him.

Alexander T. Oyajiide[]

Initially, while he was in the Computer, Onpu thought he was a cute creature. But following his escape and transformation, she began to find his obsession towards her to be strange. She doesn't appear uncomfortable with him, but she usually isn't sure how to respond to his actions.

Magical DoReMi[]

In the English dub, Onpu was renamed Ellie Craft. In comparison to Onpu's initial charming and cunning attitude, Ellie appeared to be openly rude and snobby.

  • The English dub voice actor for Onpu Segawa/Ellie Craft has not been explicitly confirmed, although potential leads as to their identity have circulated throughout the years.

    • The most we see of it is in Majo Ruka's flashback in episode 8 of Na-i-sho, showing from a bird's eye view the magic beaming out of the window of her bedroom as she finishes transforming.
