History[]
Long ago, Majo Leed founded the Witch Frog Village to help her fellow witches who were turned into witch frogs, giving them compassion and hope.
In an effort to help her village economically thrive, she traveled to Japan many tines in the human world to study making sweets. She befriended several Japanese women who also worked at the traditional tea house she studied, and was touched by their generous offer to help. However, while Majo Leed lacked skills at making sweets, she trusted her new human friends' feedback after they sampled some sweet bean jellies she made. Believing they were complimenting her, she returned to the Witch World to try selling them for the village. The sweet bean jellies did not sell, and Majo Leed's self-esteem in her skills fell. Upon returning to Japan, she overheard her human friends express their true (and negative) opinions about her sweet bean jellies. She felt hurt hearing this, angry that she was lied to, and from then on distrusted Japanese humans.
Motto! Ojamajo Doremi[]
The Ojamajos travel to the Witch World to take their fifth Patisserie exam with Majo Leed as the examiner. The girls waited patiently for Majo Leed to arrive, but Dela was sent in her place to inform the girls that the exam was cancelled and no reason was given. The girls then travel to Witch Frog Town to ask Majo Leed directly during a town meeting. She dismissed the girls' needs in favor of solving the town's economic problem, to which the girls offer their help. Majo Leed refuses their help with prejudicial reasoning, because she does not trust humans, especially the Japanese. Momoko angrily asked what was wrong with being Japanese and questioned Majo Leed's authority. Shocked by Momoko's honesty, Majo Leed used magic to abduct Momoko and teleport the two of them back to her home away from the village. To Momoko's surprise, Majo Leed offered her a couple of homemade "sweets", wanting honest feedback. Momoko tried both, and gave negative critiques on both, leaving Majo Leed rather disappointed. Leed then asked Momoko to help her come up with a new sweet for the village. Momoko responded that she'd help but only on the condition that her friends would be in on it, too. Leed denies this condition, prompting her to tell Momoko about her past that caused her to distrust Japanese humans. Momoko empathized with Majo Leed, having been raised in America with different social values. She then explained that Japanese people are socially more sensitive to straightforward opinions, and that Leed's former human friends simply didn't want to hurt her feelings. Majo Leed insisted that they still did by not being honest.
The other Ojamajo girls then find Momoko and Majo Leed following Momoko's hat that they turned into a bird. Both Doremi and the "bird" crash into Leed, causing Leed's cloak and mask to come off and reveal that she herself is actually a witch frog. Leed freaks out at her disguise being undone and scrambles get out of sight of the girls, hiding in the darkness of her home.
The girls conclude that Majo Leed has been keeping her being a witch frog a secret from everyone. Nevertheless, they decide to help the witch frogs create a new sweet based on Japanese cuisine. Majo Leed spies on them from outside one of the houses while the other witch frogs join in helping the girls.
Trivia[]
- Despite her distrust of the Japanese people, she loves Japanese culture and aesthetics.
- Due to her purple hair (sometimes shown as wavy) and the colored scar on her left eye, it's possible Majo Leed's design was inspired by the japanese rock musician Kenji Ohtsuki.
