"I'm the world's most unluckiest pretty girl!"
Doremi Harukaze

Doremi Harukaze (春風どれみ, Harukaze Doremi) is the main character of Ojamajo Doremi. She is an average, eight-year-old unlucky girl dealing with argumentative parents, a spiteful little sister, a lack of romance and terrible grades. But after a particularly foul day, she learns the owner of Misora's Magical Shop is really a witch.

Bio

Appearance

Doremi has fair skin and round mulberry eyes. Her long red hair is usually worn up in large chignon buns held by pink scrunchies, one of which has a yellow music note. Her bangs are cut short with a bunch sticking up on the side. When loose, her hair lining matches her bangs. The only two episodes where Doremi has her hair down is in episodes 2 and 49 of Ojamajo Doremi Sharp.

Originally, Doremi wore a carnation pink T-shirt tucked into her loose, light pink denim shorts with a mauve tank-top. She also wore white and pink sneakers with magenta accents and pale pink socks.

Starting with Motto, Doremi began wearing a mauve zipped vest with a pocket over the original top and lilac shorts with pockets and belt. She kept her shoes, while her socks became knee-length.

Personality

Like many other shoujo leads, Doremi is childish and simple-minded, clumsy, and likely dismissed by others for being "troublesome". At times she can be selfish and impulsive, and she is easy to provoke, usually to the amusement of others. She can also be pushy and lazy. This has led to a lot of self-loathing on her part, and she struggles to find anything that she can do well. She also gets into trouble a lot. She is easily jealous by trivial things, but she's likely to move on fairly quick. Throughout the series (mainly in the first season), she often claims to be "the unluckiest pretty girl in the whole world" whenever something unlucky happens to her. She is also known to puff up her cheeks and making a farting noise when frustrated.

Family and friends are very important to Doremi and she likes to keep them close her. Along with this, she also has a few other obsessions. The first is her unusual attraction to steak. This obsession first occurred when her father, Keisuke Harukaze, introduced her to steak for the first time. Ever since that time, Doremi mentions steak often yet as a running gag, she never eats it. Doremi is also known to be obsessed with boys and easily finds herself "in love" with guy after guy. These attractions usually don't go anywhere which is a result of either Doremi not being able to express her feelings or by the guy turning out to be different from what expected.

However, one of Doremi's best qualities is her immensely kind heart. She is very friendly and will do what she can to help, even if she doesn't necessarily like the person. While this does make her appear nosy, she has also gained several friends because of her tenacity and well-meaning gestures. She is determined, but also passionate and stubborn, and many find her positive and easy-going nature to be infectious.

Growing up, Doremi has struggled to be understood by others which caused her much frustration when they ridiculed her interest in magic. Not only is she a big eater, but she is boy-crazy and loves romantic things. She is also very emotional and expressive, and a bit shy when it comes to her feelings.

Witch Apprentice

Doremi is the pink witch apprentice and the reason the term "ojamajo" was invented. Initially, she expressed concern over becoming a Witch Apprentice until she realized she could perform magic, and she soon convinced her friends Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo to join her when she caught them spying on her.

Doremi is thought of as the leader and can get envious or concerned when others perform better. Her clumsiness really comes out when she attempts to cast spells and fly, and they rarely work as intended; usually, if she was hungry or flustered. At first, Doremi had a habit of making greedy spells due to her gluttonous nature.

She has a pink, bean-shaped crystal ball and her fairy is Dodo.

Past

When Doremi was a little girl she was very curious about the world and enjoyed experiencing new things for the first time, usually getting into them without knowing any better. Her mother taught her how to play the piano, which ended in disaster after Doremi panicked and forgot how to play during a recital. But this event led to her first bite of steak, and she's been hooked on it since.

It was also said that Doremi as a child acted a lot like how Pop did at the start of the series. She tried to be mature and act like an adult, but she became jealous of Pop and did not like the attention she got. As a result, Doremi would often push her away- possibly one of the reasons for Pop's original resentment.

Before the start of the events in the show, she had always dreamed of meeting or even being a witch.

Relationships

Hazuki

Doremi and Hazuki have been lifelong friends since kindergarten. Their personalities often support one another as Doremi acts as encouragement for Hazuki and Hazuki acts as a voice of reason for Doremi. Doremi takes Hazuki's advice to heart and often worries over her, refusing to leave her when she knows she needs help.

Like the other Ojamajos, Doremi finds Hazuki's enjoyment of "cold" jokes to be odd. She can also underestimate her shyness and social anxiety in some cases, which has led to disputes before.

Aiko

In Aiko's introductory episode, Doremi originally hated Aiko's unfiltered comments about other people. But as she got to know Aiko she saw the good person she was on the inside, and they become quick friends. Aiko and Doremi share minor traits in common, allowing them to bond fairly well, and Doremi admires Aiko to some extent. Aiko is another voice of reason for Doremi, but she appears to be more empathetic or honest with her, so she's usually the one who can persuade Doremi to reconsider her actions.

Onpu

Despite Onpu being antagonistic at first, Doremi was very affectionate around her and thought she was really cute, so she was dismayed after discovering the truth, not that it stopped her from liking Onpu any less. She deeply cares for Onpu and saw good in her, which helped persuade Onpu to stop using Forbidden Magic and she eventually joined their group. Doremi often acts dependent around Onpu.

Momoko

After being put in the same class and realizing how much they have in common, Doremi quickly befriended Momoko when she got off on the wrong foot with the others.

Hana

Hana sees Doremi as her "true mother" due to seeing her first upon birth. As a baby, Hana spent most of her time in Doremi's care as she wasn't as busy as the others, and Doremi came to view Hana like her real daughter. As such, Doremi is very sensitive about Hana's well-being and can let her concerns for her get in the way of some relationships, and she can make some brash decisions. But she learned from her mistakes and maturely began to take care of her. Even when Hana ages herself up, Doremi still sees her as her daughter and she makes sure she remains healthy and does the right thing.

Tetsuya Kotake

DoremiXkotake.jpg

Doremi's classmate for six years. They have a poor relationship and he is shown to often provoke and rile her up for no reason other than to see her respond; usually through violence. Kotake calls her "Dojimi"— a pun on her name and the Japanese word for clumsy. However, she comes to see him as a friend and feels at ease when she knows he is alright, and on occasion they were capable of getting along. Eventually she gains feelings for him.

Reika Tamaki

Another classmate Doremi is unable to get along with due to her arrogant and spoiled nature. Despite this, Doremi also cares about her safety and happiness and she will do what she can to help her. Later in the series they eventually gain mutual respect for each other and begin to get along.

Pop

Doremi is envious of Pop's maturity, which often leads to the two arguing among each other. This leads to Doremi often teasing or trying to belittle Pop due to her age. Doremi also takes pride in being able to do things that Pop is unable to due to her age (most notable of which is being able to stay up to take the Witch Apprentice exams). But at the same time, Doremi holds some respect for Pop and tries to protect her. She asks others to treat her with kindness and consideration of her age, and she will keep an eye on her when she gets the chance.

Akatsuki

Doremi is interested in Akatsuki and not afraid of showing it. Her interest with him is usually to her detriment as she unwillingly falls into victim into the FLAT4's plans to steal Hana. Doremi was heartbroken upon finding out but when they switch side at the end of Sharp, her feelings for him remained well into Dokkān, where she ended up choosing Kotake over him during their field trip after the latter cheated during a game of paper sumo with the former.

Kayoko Nagato

Doremi develops a friendship with Kayoko in the third season, Ojamajo Doremi Mo~tto! Doremi helped Kayoko by becoming a friend she could trust and by helping her with her fear of going to school.

Magical DoReMi

In Magical DoReMi, Doremi has been renamed "Dorie Goodwyn". While Doremi was emotional, Dorie yells a lot and she appears to be more simple-minded. Rather then Doremi's catchphrase she would often say she/they were "doomed" instead. At one point she also claimed to have a pet cat.
