"I'm the world's most unluckiest pretty girl!"
Doremi Harukaze

Doremi Harukaze (春風どれみ, Harukaze Doremi) is the main character of Ojamajo Doremi. She is an average, eight-year-old unlucky girl dealing with argumentative parents, a spiteful little sister, a lack of romance and terrible grades. But after a particularly foul day, she learns the owner of Misora's Magical Shop is really a witch.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Doremi has fair skin and red hair in large twin buns tied by pink scrunchies, one of which has a yellow music note. Her bangs are cut short with a bunch sticking up on the side. When loose, her hair lining matches her bangs, which can only be seen in episodes 2 and 49 of Ojamajo Doremi Sharp. She has mulberry eyes.

Originally, Doremi wore a carnation pink T-shirt with a maube tank top tucked into her loose dull pink denim shorts. She also wore pale pink socks and magenta sneakers with pink accents.

Beginning with Mōtto!, Doremi keeps her T-shirt worn beneath purple zipped vest with a pocket, as well as lavender shorts with pockets and belt. Her socks becoming knee-length with sneakers having white ties instead of pink.

Personality[]

Doremi is a childish and clumsy girl described as "troublesome". She can be selfish and impulsive sometimes, getting into trouble a lot. This has led to a lot of self-loathing on her part, and Doremi struggles to find anything that she can do well. She is easily jealous by trivial things, but will probably move on quickly. Throughout the series (mainly in the first season), Doremi often claims to be "the unluckiest pretty girl in the whole world" whenever something unlucky happens to her.

However, one of Doremi's best qualities is her kind heart, doing whatever she can even if she doesn't necessarily like the person. Although it makes her appear nosy, Doremi has also gained several friends because of her tenacity and well-meaning gestures. Growing up, Doremi has struggled to be understood by others, which caused her much frustration when they teased her interest in magic. Doremi is not only a big eater, but she loves romantic things.

Witch Apprentice[]

Doremi is the pink witch apprentice and the reason the term "ojamajo" was invented. Initially, she expressed concern over becoming a Witch Apprentice until she realized she could perform magic, but soon convinced her friends Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo to join her.

Doremi is thought of as the leader and can get envious or concerned when others perform better. Her personality really comes out when she attempts to cast spells and fly, and they rarely work as intended if she was hungry or flustered. At first, Doremi had a habit of making greedy spells due to her gluttonous nature.

She has a pink bean-shaped crystal ball and her fairy is Dodo.

Spells[]

  • Transformation: Pretty Witch Doremicchi! (プリティー・ウィッチー・どれみっちー!)
  • Spell: Pirika Pirilala Poporina Peperuto! (ピリカピリララ ポポリナペペルト!)
  • Magical Stage Pirika Pirilala, Nobiyaka ni! (ピリカピリララ のびやかに!)
  • Royal Patraine Pirika Patraine! (ピリカパトレーヌ!)

Past[]

When Doremi was a child, she was very curious about the world and enjoyed experiencing new things for the first time, usually getting into them without knowing any better. Her mother taught her how to play the piano, which ended in disaster after Doremi forgot how to play during a recital. However, this event led to her first bite of steak, and she has been hooked on it since.

It was also said that Doremi acted a lot like how Pop did at the start of the series. Doremi tried to be mature, but became jealous of Pop and did not like the attention she got. As a result, Doremi would often push her away — possibly one of the reasons for Pop's original resentment. At the beginning of the series, she had always dreamed of meeting or even being a witch.

Relationships[]

Hazuki[]

Doremi and Hazuki have been friends since kindergarten. Their personalities often support one another as Doremi acts as encouragement for Hazuki, while Hazuki acts as a voice of reason for Doremi. Doremi takes Hazuki's advice to heart and often worries over her, refusing to leave her when she knows she needs help.

Like the other Ojamajo, Doremi finds Hazuki's enjoyment of "cold" jokes to be odd. She can also underestimate her shyness and social anxiety in some cases, which has led to disputes before.

Aiko[]

Doremi originally hated Aiko's opinions about other people, but saw the good person she was on the inside, and they become friends quickly. Aiko and Doremi share minor traits in common, allowing them to become close well, and Doremi admires Aiko to some extent. Aiko is another voice of reason for Doremi, but she seems to be more empathetic or honest with her, so she's usually the one who can persuade Doremi to reconsider her actions.

Onpu[]

Despite Onpu being antagonistic at first, Doremi was very affectionate around her and thought she was adorable, so she was dismayed after discovering the truth. She really cares for Onpu, which helped persuade Onpu to stop using Forbidden Magic and eventually joined the group.

Momoko[]

After being put in the same class and realizing how much they have in common, Doremi quickly befriended Momoko when she got off on the wrong foot with the others.

Hana[]

Hana sees Doremi as her "true mother" due to seeing her first upon birth. As a baby, Hana spent most of her time in Doremi's care as she wasn't as busy as the others, and Doremi treated Hana like her real daughter. Therefore, Doremi is very sensitive about Hana's well-being and can let her concerns for her get in the way of some relationships, and she can make some brash decisions. However, Doremi learned from her mistakes and maturely began to take care of her. Even after Hana grows up, Doremi still sees her as her daughter and makes sure she remains healthy.

Tetsuya Kotake[]

DoremiXkotake

Doremi and Kotake

Doremi and Kotake have been classmates for six years. They have a bad relationship as he is shown to tease her, usually through violence. Kotake calls her "Dojimi", a pun on her name and the Japanese word for clumsy. However, Doremi comes to see him as a friend and feels at ease when she knows he is fine. She eventually gains feelings for him at the end of the series.

Reika Tamaki[]

Doremi is unable to get along with due to her arrogant and spoiled nature. Despite this, Doremi also cares about her safety and happiness, ready to do whatever she can. Later in the series, they eventually gain mutual respect for each other and begin to get along.

Pop[]

Doremi is envious of Pop's maturity, which often leads to the two fighting and Doremi often teasing her. She also takes pride in being able to do things that Pop is unable to due to her age and stay up to take the Witch Apprentice exams. At the same time, Doremi respects Pop and tries to protect her. She asks others to treat her with kindness and consideration of her age.

Akatsuki[]

Doremi is interested in Akatsuki and not afraid of showing it due to FLAT4's plans to steal Hana. When they switch side at the end of Sharp, her feelings for him remained well into Dokkān!, where Doremi ended up choosing Kotake over him during their field trip after the latter cheated during a game of paper sumo with the former.

Kayoko Nagato[]

In Mōtto!, Doremi helped Kayoko by becoming a friend she could trust and overcoming her fear of going to school.

Magical DoReMi[]

In Magical DoReMi, Doremi has been renamed Dorie Goodwyn. Although Doremi was emotional, Dorie yells a lot and she appears to be more simple-minded. Rather than saying her catchphrase, she would often say they were "doomed" instead. At one point, she is also believed to have a pet cat.
