Opening Clip[]
Doremi contemplates the upcoming witch exam and is very tense. She attempts to encourage herself and hops into the air, stating that she will no longer be an Ojamajo.
Summary[]
Doremi anxiously awaits the arrival of the ninth Apprentice exam when she is asked to follow her little sister, Pop, while she runs an errand. Will she be able to help Pop out and have enough Magic Spheres for her exam, or will she be forced to make a tough decision?
Recap[]
Majorika has been training the girls for their upcoming exam. Hazuki and Aiko are prepared and have been doing well, so Doremi is the only one she really worries over. Doremi expresses a lack of interest in practice and asks if the exam is really important, which causes Majorika to angrily point out that Doremi is the only one who can change her back. It is vital she passes.
Hazuki is nervous but Aiko assures her that she will be fine. As they get more Magic Spheres, Majorika remarks on how rare it is for anyone to fail the first exam. She warns them to save a couple of their Spheres for the exam, and Lala encourages the girls by reminding them that they will receive a fairy for passing. Doremi is very excited, and hearing that it's so rare for anyone to fail the exam convinces her that she will do fine.
However, her mood is dampened when Pop finds her crumbled up test paper while cleaning. She makes fun of Doremi's poor score and Doremi gets frustrated when Pop forces her out of the room so that she can finish. Haruka tries to ease Doremi's mood by reminding her that she used to act like that when she was little. It doesn't really help, and Doremi thinks things over until Pop returns to lecture her. She tells Doremi that she will be a loser who always fails, while she will lead a successful life. Doremi ignores her and takes off for the shop.
The next morning, Doremi finds Haruka preparing Pop for a trip she will be taking. Their Grandmother is sick and she wants Pop to visit. Haruka is concerned that something could happen, but Pop assures her she will be fine and takes off shortly after. Haruka asks Doremi to keep an eye on Pop from a distance, and initially Doremi refuses until she recalls her upcoming exam. This could be considered practice, so she changes her mind and leaves. She transforms to help her keep distant from Pop, and she decides to transform into Aiko to check in on Pop.
Unfortunately, she forgot that Pop hasn't met Aiko yet, leading her to become anxious when the stranger approaches to casually chat. Doremi quickly calms her down by explaining herself as one of Doremi's friends. Pop thanks her for putting up with Doremi and continues along the path. It's then Hazuki and Aiko spot the Aiko lookalike, and Aiko scolds her poor performance. Doremi transforms back to normal after trying to explain what is going on and she resumes following Pop. By the time she locates her, she realizes Pop has gotten lost. To help point her out in the right direction, Doremi summons a sign to catch her attention with its flashy display. Only for Pop to suddenly remember which way to go and completely ignore it.
With that, Doremi decides not to use anymore of her Spheres. Just in time for her to realize that Pop lacks the proper funds to purchase the Daifuku for their grandmother that their mom asked her to buy. Doremi decides it is necessary and she uses magic again to give Pop some more money in her change purse. But Pop doesn't check it again, she puts it away and decides to praise the owner of the shop until she offers to give her a discount. Doremi is really upset, but she calms herself down as Pop locates the extra money and decides to buy herself an ice cream.
Meanwhile, Hazuki and Aiko are getting more practice in at the shop. But they find it hard to concentrate since they're worried over Doremi.
Doremi is beginning to feel better now that things have calmed down. Until she realizes that Pop has to use the bathroom now- causing both girls to panic as Pop tries to hurriedly locate a restroom. She can't find one though, and ends up wetting herself. Doremi is annoyed and doesn't want to help Pop anymore because it keeps going to waste, but when Pop starts to cry she has a change of heart. She uses the last of her magic to summon a portable washer. Pop is able to get her panties cleaned and continue on her way.
That night at the dinner table, Pop tells her family about her day. Haruka discretely thanks Doremi for her assistance, and Doremi is glad things worked out. But she worries about the test now that she's used up all of her Magic Spheres. Once she finishes eating, Doremi heads to the shop and is scolded by Majorika for what happened. She makes a fuss, but then they discover that there is a single Sphere left in the pouch they are stored in. This gives Doremi a chance and they express relief before heading through the door to the Magic World.
The girls admire their brand new surroundings when they find a small stand, where two witches are located. Majorika introduces Mota and MotaMota as the exam givers. Once introductions are exchanged the test begins. Aiko and Hazuki pass with ease, but Doremi isn't familiar with her requested food item and is perplexed. She tries her best but ends up summoning a steak instead. While the examiners like how it tastes, it wasn't what they asked for. So she fails the exam.
As Aiko and Hazuki celebrate and observe their adorable, newly born fairies, Doremi and Majorika become depressed.

Trivia[]
- The foods that Aiko and Hazuki made relate to their favorite foods.
- Among the fans, several agreed that this exam was unfair towards Doremi. While Aiko and Hazuki got items relevant to what they practiced, Doremi is too young to have experience with coffee and her practice did not involve it. It was also pointed out in-series that magic only works if the person has seen the item before and has a clear concept regarding how it is made.
- This is the first episode feature an exam.
- It was also the first episode where Pop had a major role.
- As well as the first episode involving the Witch World.
