"I don't have any friends..."
A Liar's First Friendship is episode six of Ojamajo Doremi, and episode six of the entire series originally aired Mar 14, 1999.
Opening Clip[]
The opening clip involves the hero detective from Nobuko's story as he sneaks into a new room, sprinting forward while avoiding gunshots. A masked man appears while his group surround the detective and shine a vibrant light on him, announcing he is caught.
Synopsis[]
Aiko befriends a girl infamous for lying; something that doesn't bother Aiko until Nobuko comes up with a big lie that she takes personally. Aiko angrily refuses to forgive her until she realizes that she didn't mean any harm, so with some help from Hazuki and Doremi she attempts to reconcile with her.
Summary[]
Hazuki and Doremi are on their way to school when Hazuki notices how happy Doremi is. She expresses that she is happy being an apprentice witch with her friends, but the girls abruptly end their conversation when a classmate runs by them. Nobuko stops to scold them for saying "Good morning", claiming it is now forbidden. At first Hazuki believes her, until Doremi points out that it is just a lie. Nobuko confirms she is correct, then she lies to Doremi before taking off. Doremi gets frustrated after Hazuki points out she fell for it.
During break the girls chat about a popular male idol group. Aiko initially isn't interested until they tell her which group it is, and Hazuki brings up their appearance on television the night before. They are joined by Nobuko and she claims to know a lot about the group because she is related to one of them. Aiko is very happy as Nobuko goes on to suggest she can easily obtain an autograph, and she says they can be friends. Doremi and Hazuki worry, and during lunch they tell her about Nobuko's deception. She likes to show-off by making up grand stories for attention. Aiko gets over her frustration hearing this, finding Nobuko's lies to be amusing.
As this is going on, Shouta notices that Nobuko isn't eating her carrots and questions if something might be wrong. She tells a dramatic story about a woman that showed up at her grandfathers doorstep. He invites her in and made carrot stew for her but she revealed herself to be an actual carrot whose destiny was to be eaten by a kind man. But her grandfather couldn't eat her. She ends the story, only to roll with it after Shouta asks if her grandmother is a carrot.
After class, Tamaki is cleaning the board, Nobuko was supposed to help her but she claims to be feeling ill to get out of it. Tamaki doesn't buy it, but decides not to deal with her any further. Aiko approaches Nobuko to find her writing something, and when Nobuko realizes she is there she quickly hides it. Aiko asks if she may be writing a love letter, then tells Nobuko that she doesn't mind waiting for the autograph, deciding to toy with her a little bit. She lets Nobuko tell her another story and they continue to chat, until Aiko brings up that her mother isn't around anymore. Nobuko tries to make her feel better and claims that her father has gone missing.
Aiko feels remorse for Nobuko, until later when Doremi and Hazuki confront her again. They bring up that her dad was there on Parents Day, and Aiko becomes infuriated. She gets up to tell off Nobuko for lying about something like that but she flees, causing her to give chase. She bumps into Yuki-sensei along the way, allowing Nobuko to escape.
Yuki-sensei brings Aiko back to her office to make sure she didn't get hurt and Aiko confides in her regarding what happened. Yuki-sensei points out that Nobuko really likes Aiko, so she was probably just trying to find a way to relate to her. While she can understand that Nobuko wasn't trying to be mean, she can't get over such a serious lie.
She remains foul tempered at the shop as everyone watches, and Majorika further enrages her by saying she shouldn't have fell for it in the first place. Meanwhile, Nobuko is worriedly standing outside trying to determine what to do. She didn't mean to make Aiko angry and honestly had no idea she would get so upset. She tries to think of something funny that may help Aiko feel better, but when she realizes it won't work she comes across the Maho-dou; just as Aiko storms out of the shop. Nobuko stumbles in a hurry to leave and she drops her items. The girls try to convince her to stop but its no use, so they begin to pick up her left-behind contents of her school bag.
They find the book that Aiko recalls seeing her write in earlier. They read over the story about a male detective who resembles Nobuko, and how he has fallen into the clutches of the evil Bone Bone Army. With the detective is Professor Hazuki, and they are rescued by Aiko and her assistant, Puppy Doremi.
The girls begin to laugh as Doremi expresses disbelief over being stuck as a dog. But they go on to realize that Nobuko was writing this story as a means of conveying the friendship she wants with Aiko. Hazuki becomes inspired and the girls transform to locate her, then Aiko uses magic to transform as their roles. They meet up with her and noticing her alarm, quickly explain that they are her creations, and Professor Hazuki mentions that Aiko is upset and they don't know what to do. Nobuko confesses to them what happened, and the Detective tells Nobuko to explain her true feelings to Aiko. Convinced this will fix everything, Nobuko thanks her book characters and runs back to the Maho-dou.
Aiko finds Nobuko at the door and they go outside to talk. Nobuko confesses to lying so much because she wanted to be closer to Aiko, as she has no friends. Aiko tells her that she doesn't want a friend to lie to her like this, and points out that it solves nothing. Nobuko promises that she will try to lie less and Aiko reveals she read her book- which surprises Nobuko until she mentions how much she liked it, including Doremi the Dog. It's then they are joined by Doremi and Hazuki. Doremi asks Nobuko if there is a curse on Doremi the Dog and she is actually a human, but Nobuko states that she is a special dog who can do a lot of neat things.

- When Aiko is trying to figure out Nobuko's name, her pupil is colored blue, when it should be black like the left eye.
- As Doremi and Hazuki cower at the sight of a ticked off Aiko, the lines on Hazuki's skirt are missing.
- As Hazuki gets an idea on how to set things straight, the one lining on the left arm strap is missing.
- Nearing the end of the episode before she goes to speak to Aiko and apologize, it looks like part of the shine marks in her closed eyes are tan.
Trivia[]
- The male idol group mentioned only appears in this episode.
- This is one of the few times the girls are shown using clay that isn't their own color. Aiko was using pink clay.
- Nobuko's claim of DNA standing for "always causing trouble somehow" is based off of a play on words, as DNA can stand for the Japanese words "Doushitemo Nantonaku Atarui".
